Campus Director Message<\/h2>\n

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the official website of Ambo University Hachalu Hundessa Campus (Institute of Technology). As the Director of the campus, I am proud to say that we create a lively learning environment. Here, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members participate in active learning, culturally relevant teaching, scientific research, strong advocacy, and community involvement regularly. Every day, our staff works hard to make our campus one of the best engineering and technology institution in Ethiopia through teaching, research, and community service.<\/p>\n

Hachalu Hundessa Campus is dedicated to equipping the young generation with advanced skills in engineering and technology. Originally known as Awaro Campus named for its location in Ambo town it was later renamed Technology Campus before receiving its current name (2020 G.C) in honor of the late hero and artist, Hachalu Hundessa.<\/p>\n

The Institute of Technology (Hachalu Hundessa Campus) began its journey in 2009 G.C. with two academic programs. It has since expanded significantly and now offers 13 undergraduate programs such as:- Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, computer science, Information Technology, Food Engineering, Construction Technology and Management, Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Survey Engineering, Urban Planning and Design, Architecture and Industrial Engineering)\u00a0 , nine Master\u2019s programs such as Thermal Engineering, Food Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Highway Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Hydraulic Engineering, Water Supply and Sanitation, Industrial Engineering and Additionally one PhD program(Industrial Engineering and Management)<\/p>\n

Situated on 138 hectares of land, the campus features well-established infrastructure including dormitories, libraries, workshops, computer laboratories, office facilities, student cafeterias, a health clinic, and student recreational spaces.<\/p>\n

The campus operates with over 250 instructors and more than 1,400 administrative staff. It serves over 5,000 students through regular and Continuing Education Program (CEP) modalities, and also maintains a satellite center at the General Tadesse Birru School in Addis Ababa. Our young, energetic academic and administrative staffs are committed to advancing the University\u2019s vision and mission.<\/p>\n

In research and community engagement, the campus works closely with national and zonal administrations, particularly in West Shewa Zone, to identify local challenges, provide scientific solutions, and build capacity for modernized service delivery.<\/p>\n

Nationally, we collaborate with various industries and institutions such as cement factories, the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure, Oromia Construction Authority, Ambo-Guder Water Supply and Sewerage Service Enterprise, Ambo Mineral Water, Homicho Ammunition Engineering Industry, Oromia Science and Technology Authority, Construction Management Institutes, Ethio Telecom, and zonal and Wereda administrative sectors.<\/p>\n

Internationally, Hachalu Hundessa Campus partners with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Sweden), the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (Italy), and the University of Rostock (Germany).<\/p>\n

As an applied science university within Ethiopia\u2019s higher education system, Ambo University is recognized as a center of excellence, with engineering and technology among its top priorities. In line with this strategic direction, the University emphasizes practical, outcome-based teaching and learning, and has integrated key performance indicators (KPIs) into institutional planning. Accordingly, Hachalu Hundessa Campus is diligently working toward national registration and accreditation of its undergraduate programs, and is revising all undergraduate curriculum to an outcome-based model.<\/p>\n

While you explore this page, I hope you see how much we care about supporting students to be successful and reach their maximum potential in their education. We believe education is a major social determinant for many components of our lives, such as economic stability, community development, and Infrastructures developments. We show how education is interdisciplinary and how successful our alumni are in many different fields of work.
