Educational institutions like that of¬† ours- Ambo university –¬† has deemed to respond to such a need, as it would be hard to realize the national educational goals, without the timely and genuine commitment of higher education institutions. As the result, teacher education in Ambo University has a long range and short term plan to producing knowledgeable, skilled and attitudinally mature graduates both in quantity and quality that would serve the country in different professionals; Laying down a problem-solving educational and institutional system that would able to utilize potential resources; and Providing social services which are compatible with the needs and development of the country.

Teacher education as a department was established during the year 2003 with a  vision of Producing  a competent and skillful teachers and supervisors who could enhance the implementation of active learning method,  reflective practice and continuous assessment. As the result its main objective is to producescurriculum experts, supervisors, and teachers   who could render consultancy services and conduct research  for the government and nongovernmental organizations.

Based on the above reality, the department is currently working up to its maximum effort toProduce knowledgeable, skilled and attitudinally mature graduates both in quantity and quality that would serve the country in different professionals. To this end, the  department has been started accepting students to be trained as a PGDT  program since 2007 and 2008 as a summer and regular program respectively, and tried to equip them with various pedagogical, psychological courses. Furthermore, department has been accepted and made the students graduated as  PGDT program since 2007.

In addition to  all of the above facts  in order to enhance  educational responsiveness to the dynamic demands of the society, the department  of teacher education  in Ambo  University has  launched the department of Curriculum and Instruction starting from 20011 at MA level with the intention to produce competent curriculum specialists who can contribute for the success of the education system and the development of the country.
