College of Business and Economics


The college of Business and Economics at Ambo University has been contributing its share in achieving the university’s objectives in particular and country’s development goals in general by producing qualified and competent graduates, conducting problem solving research, and rendering community services.

The college has recently established Business Development Center that works with Institute of Technology Incubation center to render services on business consultancy, techniques to start and grow business, and how to solve the problem and challenges related to businesses for communities found in and around Ambo.

College of Business and Economics is established under Ambo University in 2006 G.C. (1999 E.C) with three departments, namely: the Department of Accounting and Finance, Department of Marketing and Department of Development Management. It commenced operation with only 180 students and few academic staffs.

Currently the college is running different undergraduate programs under 5 departments: Accounting and Finance, Economics, Management, Marketing Management, and Public Administration and Development Management. In addition, the college runs postgraduate program in 4 areas of specializations namely:  MBA in Management, MBA in Finance, Development Economics, and Development Management. At the moment, the college has 90 academic staff, 2018 undergraduate and 490 post graduate students in regular, CEP and summer programs.

To expand its service at large, the college has opened satellite centers at Ginchi, Holeta and Addis Ababa. The satellite campuses serve as sites for continuing education centers and are secured by collaborative agreements with other organizations working on Education.
