College of Social Science and Humanities


CSSH was established in 2009 with two departments:
  • English Language & Literature and
  • Afaan Oromoo & Literature

Later on, departments of Law, Civics & Ethical Education, Sociology, Social Work, Political Sciences and International Relations, Journalism & Communications, and Linguistics were launched. Through time, the department of Law was separately organized as an independent school. Presently, the college has eight academic departments.

All the departments under CSSH are running undergraduate programs and two of the departments (Afaan Oromoo & Literature and English Language & Literature) are running  postgraduate (masters) in regular and continuing education programs. The college also runs PhD program in English Language Teaching (ELT).

The priority areas identified for Research and Community Services by the College includes but not limited to: Para-social workers, English language improvement, teaching Afaan Oromo, social problems of disadvantaged group, communication and psycho-social problems.

The college believes that education is not only schooling which imparts skills of numeracy, literacy and knowledge of historical, scientific and artistic traditions, but also, it is a means to inculcate the societal values and democratic culture.  To this end, the college is working on the means of communicating social and democratic values, fostering ethical conduct and critical thinking, and developing culture of tolerance among the community.
