Ambo University is one of the pioneer higher learning institutions in Ethiopia, established in 1947 and operated under various names and organizational statuses before attaining full university status. Like other institutions of higher learning, Ambo university generally serve as vital hub of knowledge, where research generates new insights, technology transfer ensures that discoveries reach end users, industry linkages connect academia with relevant stakeholders, community engagement promotes social inclusion, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) provide the backbone for innovation and sustainable development.

Accordingly, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer at Ambo University is primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all research and publication, extension and technology transfer, community engagement, university-industry linkage, and STEM activities of the university.

We work to cultivate a vibrant research culture that empowers faculty and students to engage in impactful scientific discovery and innovation. We also aim to ensure that the outcomes of research are not only published and disseminated but also translated into technologies, policies, and practices that contribute to the progress of our community, our nation, and beyond.

Mission of the office is to:

  • Promote quality and problem-solving research across disciplines.
  • Strengthen linkages between the university, industry, government, and the community.
  • Facilitate the transfer of technologies, knowledge, and innovations to the relevant stakeholders
  • Build the capacity of our researchers and students to engage in impactful projects.
  • Ensure that our research outputs contribute to the socio-economic transformation of our nation.

So as to effectively carry out its mission, the office operates through the following director-level offices:

  • Director for University Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer
  • Director for Free Legal Service
  • Director for Lauret Tsegaye G/Medhin Cultural Research Center
  • STEM Director
